Raiders Acquire C Samson Satele From Miami

March 23, 2009

The Raiders worked out a deal for Miami C Samson Satele, which has Oakland trading spots with Miami in the 4th round of the 2009 draft and also handing over their 6th round pick altogether. Since being drafted by Miami in 2007, Satele has started every game of his career. However, despite this fact, he didn't fit into Parcells' long range plan for the Dolphins.

Miami signed former Raiders' C Jake Grove on March 3rd to help bolster their offensive line. Although Satele and Grove are both listed at 300 lbs., Parcells felt that Grove was better equipped to physically handle two of the bigger nose tackles in the AFC East, mainly the Jets' Kris jenkins and the Patriots' Vince Wolfork.

The former Hawaii star center is excited about joining the Raiders.

"They went in another direction." "But it worked out good and I can't wait to get to Oakland and start fresh."

Leo Goeas, Satele's agent, said his client is looking forward to being closer to Hawaii.

"Sam's very excited to get to the west coast, closer to family and friends," Goeas said. "And with the Raiders, he's expected to start at center, be a Pro Bowl player and be the leader of the offensive line."
